Dr. Whitaker is an experienced Wellmont CVA Heart Institute cardiologist with strong ties to the Tri-Cities region, having spent much of his life in Jonesborough.
In his work as an interventional cardiologist, he uses balloon-tipped catheters and places stents to improve the blood flow through coronary arteries - saving lives and relieving chest pain.
As a physician, Dr. Whitaker believes listening to patients in the first step in understanding what he can do to help them. He believes that he and his patients work as a team, each understanding what the other can do.
Dr. Whitaker is also committed to cardiovascular clinical research, having served as a principal investigator in more than 30 clinical trials.
Dr. Whitaker received his medical degree from E.T.S.U. in Johnson City, Tenn. He also completed his residency and cardiology fellowship at East Tennessee State University and remains on faculty as an associate professor of medicine.
