New MyWellmont App Provides Additional Convenience for Patients Seeking Details About Their Medical Care

Patients who prefer to access health information on their smartphone will now have a new app that enables them to review a significant portion of their electronic medical record from Wellmont Health System.

The new MyWellmont app builds on the successful development and implementation of this secure online tool and provides an extra layer of convenience for patients on the go. It is free, easily downloadable and customized to fit the needs of patients who rely on Wellmont as their go-to health source.

Launched after months of careful preparation and refinement, this helpful software is available from Google Play or Apple App Store. People can review details of the app prior to making the choice to download and install it.

Once it is installed, patients can accomplish many tasks, such as scheduling and viewing upcoming appointments, sending messages to their physician or advanced practitioner, viewing most test results, requesting medication refills and paying bills.

“Our patients might need details about their medical care at a moment’s notice, and it is imperative that we be agile and adapt to their needs,” said Martha Chill, Wellmont’s chief information officer. “We kept that at the forefront of our minds as we developed this app and are proud of the way it will empower our patients. Our new app represents the latest way Wellmont connects with its patients to provide the information they need to manage and improve their health.”

MyWellmont, a free program that is also available via computer, was introduced in 2014 as a way to give patients 24/7 access to much of their medical record. It was developed as part of Wellmont’s conversion to the Epic electronic health record, which enables caregivers at the health system’s facilities to access a patient’s record of care no matter where treatment was provided within the organization.

The new app, which has a distinctive Wellmont look, was a collaborative project of leaders and staff members within the organization. Members of Wellmont’s Knowledge and Technology Services Department provided the technical expertise to create the finished product. It replaces a prior version created in the early stages of MyWellmont that was due for an update.

“Our health system is constantly looking for ways we can serve our patients efficiently and effectively,” said David Brash, president and chief executive officer of Wellmont Medical Associates, who served on the committee for this project. “We believe patients will appreciate the way it gives them the flexibility they need with their health information. Easy access to medical information by patients is standard now, and we are focused on helping ours participate as fully as possible in their care.”
