    We can help.

Navigating the Health Insurance Marketplace and finding an insurance plan that’s right for you

No one plans to get sick or hurt, but everyone needs medical care at some point.

Health insurance helps cover these costs and protects you from the high medical bills you might face if you have to see a specialist, have surgery or spend a few days in the hospital.

    Visit the Health Insurance Marketplace

The  Health Insurance Marketplace is a new way to find health coverage that fits your budget and meets your needs. When you fill out the Marketplace application, you’ll know if you qualify for private medical insurance, Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program, also known as CHIP.

Health insurance plans available through the Marketplace and elsewhere provide free preventive care, including vaccines, screenings and check-ups. They also cover some costs for the drugs your doctor prescribes.

Read on to learn how our certified health insurance navigators can guide you through the Marketplace.

What happens if I don’t have insurance?

Don't risk paying a penalty for not having insurance.

Most people must have health coverage in 2017 or pay a penalty. Those who don’t have coverage will pay an individual responsibility payment of either 2.5 percent of their income or $695 per adult ($347.50 per child) – whichever is higher – to the Internal Revenue Service.

Read more about the fees for not being covered on healthcare.gov.

    Did you miss open enrollment?

You might qualify for a special enrollment period.

As of Jan. 31, you won't be able to sign up for health insurance through the Marketplace until this year's open enrollment period, unless you experience certain life-changing events.

Life events that can qualify you for a special enrollment period include:

    • Marriage
    • Having a baby, adopting a child or placing a child for adoption or foster care
    • Moving, gaining citizenship or leaving incarceration
    • Losing other health coverage

How does health care affect your taxes?

From tax credits to potential penalties, we can help when it’s time to file.

Your health coverage status can impact your federal tax return. You might want to review a tax tool if you have:

    • Marketplace plan with premium tax credits
    • Marketplace plan without premium tax credits
    • Job-based health insurance
    • Other health coverage
    • No health coverage
